June S. Freeman
Abraham Lincoln said, “All I am and all I hope to be, I owe to my mother.” My father and I can say the same about Mom, June S. Freeman. She embodied humility, compassion, kindness, and love and we will miss her dearly.
June Susan Freeman passed away peacefully at Abington Jefferson Hospital on February 11th, 2023. She was 84 years old and beloved by many, especially her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Howard; loving and devoted son Gary and his wife Mary Anne of Hatboro, PA; and their three adoring children Christina, Michael (Mia), and Jennifer (Sam).
June was born June 6, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA to Ernest and Dorothy (Henzler) Born. She was raised in Kensington and a graduate of Kensington High School For Girls. After graduation she went to work as an accounting clerk for the Pennsylvania Railroad. This is where she spent the next 44 years as the railroad transitioned from Pennsylvania to Penn Central, Conrail and she finally retired from CSX in 2000.
She met her beloved husband Howard while bowling and they were married in July of 1960 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church. They began their life together in the Bustleton section of Philadelphia. Their son Gary was born in 1966 and they then moved to Southampton in 1976.
June continued to meet with her Kensington High School classmates once a year even until the summer of 2022. June loved to spend long hours in her gardening endeavors at home as well as at her campsite. Flowers and their amazing beauty were always one way she would express her love to us. She adored all animals, especially her black cat Snickers and her beloved Chinese Crested dogs Shelly and Bernie. June enjoyed traveling with the family in their RV all across the country and was an avid photographer and crafter.
As a member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church since 1958, she relied on her deep Christian faith to continue to embrace peace and positivity, her trademark qualities, while volunteering within the church and community. Her devoted friends at Bethesda saw her involved with the Mariners Group, Church Choir, Vacation Bible School and as a Sunday School Teacher. Her and Howard lovingly chaired the flower fund for many years.
Throughout her 84 years, she saw beauty all around her. The last several months were spent admiring the beauty of wild birds at the feeder outside her family room window. She never failed to notice and appreciate the warmth of the sun at home or on a trip. Her soul touched our lives in the most beautiful ways, ones we will never forget.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 9:30am until her Funeral Service 11:00am in Bethesda Presbyterian Church, 808 Red Lion Road Philadelphia, PA 19115. Her interment will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in her memory to Bethesda Presbyterian Church at the address above.
