Richard C Donovan

Richard Charles Donovan, age 81, passed peacefully at home on Sunday, February 12th 2023. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Richard was a retired mechanical engineer who worked for Bell Labs, AT&T and Lucent Technologies. He received his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. Richard loved spending time with his family, especially at the beach. He loved golfing, birding, and photography. He and his beloved wife, the late Dorothy (Dunlap) Donovan, were married for 48 years and had a storybook romance. When they weren’t travelling together, they loved spending time with their daughters and grandchildren. They are reunited at last. Richard will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, and for his kindness and warmth. He will be dearly missed by his family.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and his parents, John J. and Anne (Makar) Donovan. He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Lynn (Donovan) Richter, Kelly Leigh (Donovan) Cantwell (Bryan), his grandchildren, Allison Richter (Dennis Matthews), Adam Richter, Samuel Cantwell, Emily Cantwell, and Sarah Cantwell, his great-granddaughter, Ada Sky Matthews, and his brothers, James Donovan (Francoise), Patrick Donovan (Charlene), Thomas Donovan (Maureen), and Robert Donovan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends may greet Richard’s family on Monday, February 20, 2023 from 9:00am, until the start of his Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 654 Hatboro Road in Richboro, PA 18954.

Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Richboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to WPGA Scholarship Fund, 930 North Lincoln Ave., Ste 1, Pittsburgh, PA 15233, which Richard felt strongly about.
