Robert J. Irving Sr.

Robert J. Irving, Sr. (Bob) of Buckingham, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2023. He was 88. He was the beloved husband to the late Florence E. Ryan Irving.

Born in Paterson, New Jersey, to Harry and Phyllis M. Arata Irving on October 11th, 1934. He grew up in New Jersey with his brother Harry (Gene) and sister Elizabeth (Betty) and attended Glassboro High School. Robert is survived by his children, Robert J. Irving, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Bedminster, Kevin M. Irving and his wife Donna of Huntingdon Valley, Vicki Petroski and her husband Michael of Philadelphia, and Russell J. Irving and his wife Gina of Plumsteadville, sister, Elizabeth Higgins of Warminster; he is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and dear friends.

After high school, Bob met and married Florence Ryan, his lifelong love and partner of 51 years after moving to Philadelphia in the early 1950’s. In 1957 he joined the Army and served overseas in Germany helping to support the Korean War effort.

It was not long after returning from military service that Bob joined the Quaker City Yacht Club and became an avid boater, eventually owning and operating over 6 different “Flossie’s” as he would name them over the years. He also became heavily involved in the management of the club, ultimately reaching the rank of Vice Commodore and always felt the most pride in knowing that he designed the club’s logo which is still used to this day.

Bob retired in 1991 from the Government Printing Office where he worked for over 30 years. He was loved by many and had countless friends from work as well as his Cape May crew after having lived near Wildwood New Jersey for numerous years. In addition, Bob was a faithful retreatant at the Malvern House having achieved his 50th consecutive year in 2020.

Bob had many hobbies but a special love for collecting and accessing the value of coins and casino chips which he continued for his entire life. He would be the first to volunteer his time to help others with their collections and inspired his numismatic love through the rest of his family with his gifts of coins and his trademark $2 bills which all his grandchildren loved.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Bob's family on Friday, March 17, 2023, from 10:00am until 11:00am at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Road, Holland, Pennsylvania 18966. A funeral mass for Robert will immediately follow the visitation with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetry in Bensalem.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to Chandler Hall Hospice Pavilion in Newtown if desired.
