Donald Swistak Bound

Donald J. Swistak Bound, of Quakertown passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem. He was 84. Donald was the loving husband to the late Frances S. Borowski Bound.

Donald was born on January 15, 1939 in Trenton, NJ to the late Joseph and Victoria Swistak Bound.

Donald was very proud of his Polish heritage and traditions and was always educating family and friends about Polish history, the family history, how to speak in Polish. He had a very strong work ethic which was instilled in him as a young boy. He started by shining shoes at 10 years of age in Trenton, New Jersey. He then delivered 500 Trentonian newspapers every day.

He was a track star in high school and was always running until he met his wife, Fran. They started running together when they eloped using the names James Clark and Henrietta Moneypenny, then started their family. At this time, he was a jewelry salesman working many hours to support the family. Eventually he opened his own jewelry store, then another. The business grew to include stores from coast to coast.

They wanted to get out of the rat race, so he sold the jewelry business and bought the farm. At this time his work ethic was passed onto his four sons. The family all worked together on the farm where they cared for 30 head of cattle, 1200 hogs, 80 horses, and countless chickens, worked 17,000 acres of crops and fields, built barns to house the animals and equipment. In addition, they hosted family Christmas parties, Polish Heritage picnics which included outdoor masses in Polish. Some of these picnics even included dignitaries from Poland. And who could forget the infamous hayrides and square dances with Donald leading the charge. As if that wasn't enough to keep them busy, they also volunteered at the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa while still dabbling in jewelry.

After farming, his beloved wife, Fran, went on the road doing traveling jewelry shows until they found Genevia-On-The-Lake where they opened a store. Donald and Fran spent 7 years there making lifelong friends, relationships and memories. After Fran’s passing, Donald moved back to PA and opened up a store in the Quakertown Farmers Market.

Donald was passionate about sharing his life stories with everyone. These stories were always captivating and seemingly unbelievable, but were always confirmed to be true.

Another thing he enjoyed doing was sharing his love of zoysia grass. He planted it throughout the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa on weekends, evenings, after work, sometimes in the middle of the night, basically any time he wasn't working in his store in the Quakertown Farmers Market. He even enlisted help from family members in order to get the job done.

Donald is survived by his children: Donald C. Bound and his wife Jill of Bensalem, Joseph A. Bound and his husband Thomas Douthit of Bellfonte, PA, and John Bound of Wrightstown; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas Bound of Jacksonville, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Frances Borwoski Bound, his son, Patrick Bound, and his brother, Robert Bound.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 6:00pm until an evening prayer service at 7:30pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd.
