Richard K. Schaeffer

Richard Kevin Schaeffer, 69, of Kissimmee Florida passed away peacefully in his home on August 28, 2023 surrounded by his friends and family after a courageous fight with cancer. Rick was a 1971 graduate of Boyertown Area High School where he played varsity baseball, football, and was a member of the Student Government. He was a 1975 graduate of Kutztown University where he earned his B.A. in Psychology. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Student Government Council, played varsity football, and selected to Who’s Who Among Students at American Colleges and Universities. From Pepperdine University, he acquired his M.A in Human Resources Management. He later earned his M.S in Strategic Intelligence from the Defense Intelligence Agency, Joint Military Intelligence College, Washington, DC.

Rick married his college sweetheart, Margaret (Margee) Becker of Bethlehem PA, and recently celebrated their 46-year anniversary.  He was the loving father to Christopher Schaeffer and his wife, Katy Dawes Schaeffer and Marcie Schaeffer and her partner, Scott Salisbury. Rick was also Grandfather to Gavyn Heck and Jackson Schaeffer

One of 5 children, he is survived by his sister, Sandy Bauman and brother, Jeffrey Schaeffer. He is predeceased by his parents, Harvey B. Schaeffer and Elizabeth (Garber) Schaeffer and his brothers Dennis Schaeffer and Robert Schaeffer.

Rick served a total of 28 years in the military, retiring in 2006 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He proudly served his country in the USMC as a Student Aviator and Communications Officer, 11 years in the NJ National Guard as an Intelligence/Electronic Warfare Officer, and retired from the Army Reserve as a Civil Affairs and Military Intelligence Officer after serving 13 years. He served as a Military Liaison to the United Nations Department of Social Welfare in Pristina, Kosovo and Commander of the 3413th Military Intelligence Detachment as a liaison for DIA Homeland Security and the FBI Counterterrorism Office. Rick also served in the federal government for 35 years as an Acquisition Management Specialist and retired from Federal Civil Service in 2019.

He traveled extensively with his family in Europe and was a Numismatic of US and Ancient Roman coins.  He was his family’s Genealogist and fully enjoyed his retirement years with his wife in Kissimmee, Florida.

Relatives and friends may greet Rick’s family on September 13th from 5pm-7pm, and again on Thursday September 14th from 11am-12:30pm at the Joseph A Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road Richboro, PA. A funeral service will follow at 12:30pm. Interment will take place at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA, with military honors, promptly at 2:30pm.
