Irma H. Smale (Detky)

Irma H. Smale (Detky) of Richboro, PA passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 12th. She was 80 years old.

Irma was born in 1943 to the late Nicholas and Helen Detky (Chapman) in Abington, Pennsylvania. Irma worked in Richboro most of her life at the Richboro Shopping Center until she retired. She had seen many business change hands but one thing always stayed the same, Irma! From when the corner store was known as the Donut Den and then changing hands to Gallagher’s Grill and eventually ended up taking ownership for many years. Even though the businesses would change you could still find Irma and people would look for her. She enjoyed traveling to Williamsburg Virginia often and enjoyed attending car shows with her late husband, Harlie Smale, III.

Irma is survived by her four children, Harlie Smale IV and his wife Kathleen, Ronald A. Smale and his wife Joanne, Brian Smale and his wife Jody and Nicole Dierkes (Greenfield) and her husband Frank; four grandchildren, Harlie V, Erik, Taylor and Charlie and her brother Nicholas Detky; she is predeceased by her brothers, Michael Detky, Andrew Detky, Nicky Detky.

Irma’s husband Harlie passed away in 2021 during covid and it made it difficult for people to attend the services as well as pay respects to the family. During the services the family will be acknowledging both the passing of Irma and Harlie.

Irma and Harlie’s family will receive friends on Friday, October 13th from 11:30am-12:30pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road, Richboro, PA. A memorial service will follow. Interment for Irma and Harlie will take place at 2pm at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery with honors at 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
