Evelyn V. Hartshorne (Ruth)
Evelyn V. (Ruth) Hartshorne, age 97, of Doylestown PA died at home surrounded by family on March 22, 2024.
She was born in Lower Saucon Township in May of 1926 to Velma and Cyrus Ruth on a farm belonging to her grandparents, Mabel and Carey Dull. Evelyn attended Hellertown School and went on to study English and history and graduate with a degree in secondary education from Ursinus College in 1947.
Evelyn was a teacher, a loving spouse to Frank for over 40 years and a devoted mother to Glenn and Nancy while enjoying her home in Cinnaminson, NJ. She was fond of quiet time with books, gardening and her dogs. She also loved playing the piano and singing hymns. She was a member of Christ Church in Riverton NJ and later Saint Paul's Episcopal in Doylestown.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Frank Hartshorne and son Glenn Hartshorne, and more recently her brother-in-law Dale Hartshorne, and sister-in-law June Nickerson.
She is survived by a daughter Nancy Pastorok (David) and their three children Sean, Tyler and Rose. She is also survived by a sister, Lenore Schmoyer (Rodney) and nieces and nephews Susan Harry, Ryan Schmoyer, Suzanne Hartshorne, Jim Hartshorne, Scott Hartshorne, George Nickerson and Fred Nickerson.
Burial will be private.
To remember Evelyn, donations may be made to Doylestown Hospice/Palliative Care, a charity of your choice -- or simply read a book, go for a walk, and love an animal with all your heart.
