Colleen McCormick (Thompson)

Colleen McCormick, 74, of Holland, passed away from pneumonia related complications on Monday, May 13, 2024 surrounded by her family.  She was the beloved wife of John P. McCormick.  Born May 1, 1950 in Coatesville, she was a daughter of Suzanna (Galbary) Thompson and the late Kenneth James Thompson.

She graduated from Coatesville Area Senior High School in 1968.  She continued her education, earning her Associates Degree from Mansfield College in Pennsylvania.  A highlight of her time at college was studying in France as part of a student exchange program.

The majority of Colleen’s career was spent in the marketing department at Penn State Great Valley Graduate School.  Working there for almost 20 years, she formed great friendships and stayed at the forefront of computer advancements.  Following a relocation, Colleen wished to continue her work in higher education and spent several years at Princeton University in various administrative roles before she retired.

Colleen was an avid reader and was always ready to recommend her favorite books to friends and family.  Also, in her free time, she found joy in working with plants and flowers, even earning a “master gardener” certificate. When Colleen wasn’t reading or gardening, she loved to travel.  Colleen and her husband John enjoyed many trips abroad, her favorites included Pompeii, Jerusalem, Barcelona, Amalfi Coast and tracing her ancestorial roots in Slovakia and Ireland.  Within her neighborhood she enjoyed being on the landscape committee and being an active member of the book club.  Above all else, Colleen cherished her time spent with her children and grandchildren.  The memories they created together will be held dear by all of her loved ones.

Along with her husband, John, Colleen is survived by her mother, Suzanna (Galbary) Thompson; two children, Christopher McCormick (Jamie), Courtney Alvarez (Cody), and stepson John S. McCormick; seven grandchildren, Reegan, Kinley, Auden, Grant, Leena, Colin, and Bree; and three siblings, Rebecca Torossian (Rick), James Thompson, and Suellen McElroy (Don).

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Friday, May 24, 2024 from 10:00am until the funeral mass at 11:00 am at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown. Interment will be held privately.

Contributions in Colleen’s name can be made to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).
