Leo P. McDermott

Leo P. McDermott of Hilltown, PA passed away quietly at home on Saturday, June 1, 2024 one week before his 84th birthday. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., he was a graduate of John Carroll High School and attended Strayer Business College. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, & was activated in the Air National Guard during the Berlin Crisis.

Leo began his financial career in a clerical position at Merrill Lynch in Washington, D.C. before becoming an Operations Manager in Baltimore, then in Bala Cynwyd, PA where he eventually became an account executive.

After 16 years, he opened a Bache & Co. (later Prudential Bache) office in Bala Cynwyd as Assistant Manager, after which he opened a Prudential Bache (later Prudential Securities) office as Branch Manager in Doylestown, PA.

Upon retiring from Prudential, Leo joined Smith Barney (later Morgan Stanley) in Doylestown, from which he retired in 2010.

Despite having numerous titles throughout his years in the business, he always preferred referring to himself as a stockbroker.

Leo was an avid fan of the Phillies and, being a D.C. Native, a diehard fan of the Washington Commanders. He was also a founding member of the reorganization of the Kiwanis Club of Doylestown.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Chere, daughter Teresa Frey, son David McDermott & his wife Kristine, son Paul McDermott; brother, Bernard McDermott & his wife Barbara, and sister-in-law Amy J. McDermott. He was pre-deceased by his brother Robert McDermott. He was the proud Pop-Pop of grandchildren Ross Frey and Riley, Damon, Madelyn, & Mollie McDermott.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 10:30 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
