Ella May Smith (Handy)
Ella May Smith, age 93, of Pipersville, PA, went home to be with Jesus on the morning of Friday, June 7, 2024. Born and raised in Mechanicsville, PA on March 10, 1931, she was the daughter of Joseph and Alice Handy and one of nine children. Two of her brothers, Harry and Clifford, preceded her in death. Still living are Ella’s siblings Mary, David, Arlene, Beverly, Florence and Richard.
Ella was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Landes, to whom she had been married for 41 years. From their union came two daughters, Janice (husband, Bruce (deceased), now Joseph) and Sharon (husband, Thomas), both of whom are still living. Each of her daughters has two existing children: Janice with son Nathan (wife Kristen) and daughter Esther and Sharon with son Zachary (wife, Danielle) and daughter Julie. As well as great grandchildren Naomi, Daniel, Allethia, Talia, David, Hannah, Zoe and Charlotte. Later, Ella remarried and was wife to Paul Smith for over 16 years. He preceded her in death on January 17, 2023.
For the majority of her working years, Ella served as Secretary to the Principal at middle schools in Bucks County, PA. She typed at over 100 wpm. She enjoyed crochet with the same vigor. In addition, she had a great love of antiques and collectibles. A hobby passed down through the generations, Ella relished gardening of both flowers and vegetables immensely. She was a lover of the manifold beauties of God’s creation.
Ella had two supreme loves—her family and her Savior. She had trusted in Christ as her personal Savior as a young girl at Mechanicsville Chapel. Her goal in life was to know Christ and make Him known, which was evidenced by her deep love, concern and compassion for her family and anyone she knew to be in need. The magnitude of Ella’s kind and caring heart was a true rarity.
Family and friends are invited to share their condolences on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 3:00pm until her Memorial Service beginning at 4:00pm at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain, PA 18901. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
~Ella will be remembered by all who knew her as an exemplary picture of God’s love.~
