Stella Turowski (Gazda)

Stella Anna Turowski (nee Gazda) was born on November 21, 1925 in Szufnarowa, Poland. She died peacefully at home on June 13, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 98. Stella came over to the United States in 1934 when she was nine years old with her mother, Mary, and her two brothers John and Walter. Her father, Joseph, came over before them to make a future for his family. Stella had a beautiful life growing up in Port Richmond.

She met the love of her life, Matty, fell in love, and started a family. Stella and Matty raised their three children in Northeast Philadelphia’s Mayfair section. Stella lovingly passed on her Polish customs to her family through cooking and holiday traditions. Her passion was sewing and crocheting. Stella was a kind, loving, and extremely unselfish woman and helped whoever was in need. Stella was a devoted Catholic. She attended mass and said the rosary everyday.

Stella is predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Matthew Turowski, her parents, Mary and Joseph Gazda, her brother John and sister-in-law Teresa, her brother Walter and sister-in-law Dolores, her son, Bernard Turowski, and her grandson, Teddy Haldis.

Stella leaves behind an extraordinary family. She is survived by her daughters Joan Haldis (Ted) and Cindy Zimmer (John), her daughter-in-law, Lorraine Turowski, her eight grandchildren, Carolyn Chiarello (Joe), Linda Palilonis (Mike), Chrissy DeForrest (Cory), Laura Stokar (Adam), Jon Haldis (Erica), Jason Turowski, and David Turowski (Liz). Her sixteen great-grandchildren will miss her tremendously. Their life without their “Babci” will never be the same. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews near and far.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Stella’s viewing on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 654 Hatboro Road, Richboro, PA 18954 from 9:30am until her Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Her interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne, PA.
