Irma D. Bennett (Detky)

Irma D. Bennett passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024. She was 94 years old. Irma was the loving wife to the late Lynn K. Bennett.

Born on November 5, 1929, in Philadelphia, Irma was the daughter of the late Alexander and Irma Horvath Detky.  She spent her childhood years in Philadelphia, was married in 1950 and moved to her dream home in Churchville in 1957.  She spent the next 60 years caring for her husband, family and home that she was so blessed to have.

Mom enjoyed celebrating holidays and special events with her family.  She was a devoted wife and adored her children and grandchildren.  Mom attended school plays, school concerts, Halloween parades, softball games, and wrestling matches with the boys and enjoyed watching her grandchildren excel in their talents.  She hung their artwork on the fridge, their precious handmade ornaments on the Christmas tree and displayed every picture she was ever gifted.  Mom generously shared her shore house with her family and treated us like we were in a bed and breakfast i.e. taking our breakfast orders and cleaning up after us since we were busy trying to get our kids ready for the beach.  She had endless energy, enjoyed hard physical work and loved gardening and anything to do with plants.  She loved popular music and was a proficient piano player of classical music and contemporary music of the 40s and 50s.  Mom loved to read biographies and romance novels and went through books in a few days.    Mom was kind to others, never judgmental, and had a childlike quality about her approach to living.  We will dearly miss her laughter, sense of humor and generosity towards her family and friends.

Irma was survived by her children, Gary Bennett and his wife Kathy of Perkasie, Nancy Colyar and her husband James of Pipersville, David  Bennett and his wife Diane of Churchville; grandchildren, Laura, Amy, Michelle, Michael, Keith, 6 great-grandchildren as well as many extended family members. She was predeceased by her siblings, Nicholas Detky, Irene Detky, and Anna Heimerdinger.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, August 29, 2024 in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain, PA 18901 from 10:00am until her funeral service at 12:00pm. Interment will take place at a later date in Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Irma’s name can be made to the American Heart Association, 1617 JFK Blvd, Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
