Bernard "Ben" Dougherty

Bernard “Ben” Dougherty passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Grandview Hospital in Sellersville. He was 81 years old.

Ben was the beloved husband of Margaret Mary "Mimi" (Oppelt) Dougherty; the couple shared 58 wonderful years of marriage, friendship, laughter, love and family.

Born in Chestnut Hill on January 30, 1943, Ben was the son of the late Patrick and Theresa (Harkin) Dougherty.

Ben grew up in Chestnut Hill with his sisters, brothers and cousins who were all raised by his Aunt Peggy whom he adored and loved.  Ben attended Cardinal Dougherty High school in Philadelphia, upon graduation Ben enlisted into the United States Army where he proudly served abroad for 3 years.  After serving in the Army Ben met his beautiful bride Mimi which led to the beginning of their amazing new lives together in 1966.  Ben and Mimi raised their 4 children at their loving home in Chalfont.

Ben was employed by B & I Auto Supply for 45 years in both sales and General Management.  Ben and Mimi were very involved with instruction for both Marriage Encounter and Pre-Cana through St Jude’s Church.  Ben loved coaching youth sports, enjoyed skiing and most of all playing golf with Mimi, his children, and friends.  Ben loved telling stories, making people laugh and most of all spending time with his grand kids.

In addition to his wife Mimi, Ben will be missed by his children Michele Cassalia and her husband James of Flourtown, Kevin Dougherty and his wife Jennifer of Fountainville, Sean Dougherty and his wife Sue of Buckingham, Michael Dougherty and his wife Laura of Harleysville; nine grandchildren, Kristen, James, Mikaela, Kaitlyn, Shane, Kevin, Shannon, Grace and Nora; siblings, Nancy Deady, Patricia Dougherty, Connell Dougherty, the late William "Bill" Dougherty, as well as many other extended family members.
