Grete Ast (Lesti)

Grete Ast, of New Hope, died Saturday, January 8th, 2022 at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA. She was 90 years old.

Grete was the beloved wife of Erich C. Ast. The couple shared 71 years of marriage, friendship, love and family.

Born in Petersaurach, Germany, Grete was the daughter of the late Josef and Anna Lindner Lesti. She is the sister of the late Friedrich Lindner, Georg Lesti, Katherine Torok, Marie Lesti and Babetta Schwab.

Grete (Oma) loved her family and showed it in many ways - one of her favorite was through cooking. Erich and her family enjoyed many meals together from pork and sauerkraut to goulash - everyone had their favorites and Oma was sure to rotate through. Her baked goods will never be forgotten - apple strudel, plum cakes and her famous (and always plentiful) Christmas Cookies.

There are so many wonderful memories - summers together in Ocean City, Christmas Eve’s at her house (with so much delicious food), laughing together while everyone around the table tried Harry Potter jelly beans, or watching her hold her grandchildren and great grandchildren for the first time - all of these will be in our hearts forever.

She found her true love in Erich and everyone who met them got to witness that love. She took great pride in what they had built here since immigrating, but still loved to go back and visit Germany. Words like sweet, loving, caring, and classy are words people have shared since her passing - she was all of that and more.

In addition to her husband Erich, Grete will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Ralph Murray; her grandchildren, James and Elizabeth Murray, Ryan and Lynne Murray and Sean and Nicole Murray; and her great grandchildren, James, Alexandra, Caroline, Jack, Anna, MacKenzie and Colin.

A small gathering will be held privately at the Joseph A Fluehr III Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer Foundation of America 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor New York, NY 10001.
