Henry "Hank" R. Rios

Henry R. “Hank” Rios, 94, of Deptford, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022. He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Lily M. (Garofalo) Rios.  He was the only child of the late Ramon Rios and Trinidad (Ochoteco) Rios.

Along with his wife, Hank (b. October 1st, 1927) is survived by seven sons; Richard Rios of Deptford, NJ, Henry Rios (Paula) of Horsham, PA, Robert Rios (Cindy) of Sewell, NJ, Stephen Rios of Sewell, NJ, Michael Rios (Obi) of Nutley, NJ, Ronald Rios (Lisa) of Ocean City, NJ, and John Rios (Angie) of Denver, PA; as well as 17 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

On October 1st, 1945 he entered the draft and chose to serve in the U.S. Navy. After an honorable discharge, he worked a long career at the Naval Depot and later at the Marine Corps in Philadelphia. While working full time in his 20’s he went to LaSalle University at night and graduated with a Bachelor of Science.

Hank met his wife at the Naval Depot and shortly after got married in June of 1958. Hank and Lily wanted a large family and were blessed with seven boys. The family lived in the same house in NE Philly for over 50 years. Of all his pursuits, he most loved spending time with his family; playing card games, watching his sons’ (and grandkids’) games/events, and taking trips to the beach and boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ.

After early retirement from the Marine Corps, Hank (who always liked to stay busy) continued doing many interesting jobs until he was 80 years old - including working at Temple University Athletic field, and delivering just about anything and everything you can name.

An avid sports fan, he lived a life full of sports - starting a girls softball league at work, and heavily involved with a boys baseball league in the Northeast Philadelphia area.  As a loyal 4-sport Philly fan, he loved going to and watching games, especially the Eagles.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 11:00 am to 12:00pm on February 17, 2022 at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd. (at Holland Rd.), Richboro.
