Catherine "Katie" Ann Lumpkin

Catherine “Katie” Lumpkin, 88, of Langhorne went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2023.

Born on July 26,1935 in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Heffron) Burns.

She was the beloved wife of 60 years to Frank Lumpkin before his passing in 2014.

After raising most of her eight children in Levittown she moved to her cherished home in Langhorne, where she lived for 42 years.

Katie touched many lives in this world with a simple, light hearted approach, which was evident with the staff and students at The George School where she worked for over 42 years. She loved them and they loved her.

With bright red hair and great spunk she could get anyone to laugh and forget their problems as she squeezed you in her arms.

Katie’s greatest joy was being with her family. She started wonderful family traditions that continue still today such as the annual “Lumpkin Vacation” at the Jersey shore.  On Thanksgiving Day it was the football game before dinner, then matching pajamas for the grandchildren when they slept over that night. Christmas Eve was spent with “Nana Claus” giving gifts and the grandchildren getting  matching Christmas hats. Love of family was instilled by Katie and her children are now passing it on to her grandchildren.

Her Catholic faith was important to her. She would often tell people that were struggling with something in their life” I’ll pray for you” and she did.

Katie had an infectious laugh that will be missed and remembered by her children: Frank Lumpkin (Melissa), Gregory Lumpkin (Helen),  Gary Lumpkin (Gerri), Cathi Smith (Scott), Dennis Lumpkin (Angie), Patti Wachtman (Eric), and Tim Lumpkin (Melissa). “Nana Kate” will be missed by her 24 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; her siblings, Joseph Burns (Linda), Mary Devine Willis (Howard), and Michael Burns (Janet).

In addition to her husband, Frank, Katie was preceded in death by the “apple of her eye” and son, Brian Lumpkin and her sister Joan Burns.

Relatives and friend are invited to greet the family Friday, January 5, 2024 from 10:00 am until the funeral mass at 12:00 pm at St. Andrew Church, 81 Swamp Road, Newtown. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
