Thomas N. Smith
Thomas N. Smith of Holland, PA, passed away with family by his side on Friday, June 11, 2021, at Abington Hospital. He was 83 years old.
Born in Fishtown, Tom was the beloved husband of Edna M. Smith (Broomhead) for 62 years, son of the late Francis and Jeanne Russ, father of the late Thomas F. Smith.
A long-term resident of both Fishtown, Holland, and Avalon, Tom graduated from West Catholic High School, Class of 1955. Tom then worked for well over 50 years in the steel business, creating plenty of customers and friends along the way. Ultimately, he was able to work himself up to his very own business, B&D Steel, which he continued to run successfully until his very last day.
When Tom was not working, he loved spending as much time in Avalon, New Jersey as possible. Whether it was just sitting on the deck enjoying the sun and working on his newspaper puzzles with his cocktail or riding some waves with his grandkids. One of his favorite things to do at the shore was cook Sunday breakfast for the whole family. Tom was also a huge sports fan, especially of Notre Dame, and the Philadelphia Flyers, which he had season-tickets to for over 40 years. Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 15478, which he spent plenty of time helping out at the church and with other events. Finally, above all else, Tom cherished the time he was able to spend with family.
Tom and his wife, Edna, loved to travel to amazing places. As the family grew, these vacations became a full family affair, and he cherished the memories shared on these vacations. Tom was also the first person that his grandkids called when they had exciting news because he would be more excited than anyone. Tom was loved by all and will be eternally missed by his friends and family who will continue to cherish every memory.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, Edna, his four children, Michael, James and his wife Karen, Lisa Bonner and her husband Joe, Allison Kasten and her husband Dave, as well as his eight grandchildren, Joey and his wife Katie, Ryan and his wife Sarah, Danny and his wife Jess, Madison, Cassidy, Noah, Lauryn, and Andrew, as well as his five great-grandchildren, Dawson, Shae, Emma, Melody, and Tommy.
