Gottfried "Fred" Schweidler

Gottfried ‘Fred’ Schweidler passed away peacefully on Saturday July 31, 2021 at his home in Warminster, surrounded by the love of his family.  He was 89 years old.

Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather with an infectious smile and twinkle in his eye.  Fred was born in 1932 in the small German town of Nieder Lindewiese, an area now located in the Czech Republic.  After WWII Fred and his family moved to Röttingen, Germany where he loved to play soccer and enjoy the outdoors.  Fred became a cabinet maker and earned his Masters Degree in Cabinet Making.  He met the love of his life, Rita Hildenbrandt, in the Summer of 1958 and they were married on August 26, 1960.

In 1964, Fred replied to an advertisement in a trade magazine for a position at a custom cabinet making shop in the United States.   After being offered the position, Fred went to America and tested the waters and Rita soon followed.  Neither Fred nor Rita could speak English but luckily the shop that hired him had several other German cabinet makers working there to help them and they quickly set off on the American Dream.

Fred touched so many people in so many different ways. He was always there to help and had a genuine interest in your happiness and well-being.  While his time with us on this earth has come to an end his memories will live with us forever.

In addition to his wife Rita, Fred will be missed tremendously by his sons and daughters-in-law, Olaf and Christine Schweidler and Glenn and Albina Schweidler and his grandchildren, Anna, Lucas, John, Caroline, Owen and Erica. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Rudi and Annette Schweidler and his sisters and brothers in-law, Elisabeth and Karl Thomas and Martha and Dieter Jakobi and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Fred's family on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 10:00am, until the start of his Funeral Mass, 11:00am, at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland, PA 18966. His interment will take place at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery in Doylestown, PA, 18901. Out of an abundance of caution, Fred's family would be most grateful if attendees wear a mask and to maintain social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Fred’s name may be made to Light the Night, an organization funding the fight for all forms of blood cancer at LLS Eastern PA & Delaware Region; LIGHT THE NIGHT DELAWARE at PO Box 22467 in NY, NY 10087-2467 ATTN: IN MEMORY OF FRED SCHWEIDLER
