Elmer Dean Critchfield
Elmer “Dean” Critchfield of Hatfield, Pennsylvania unexpectedly passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 26, 2022. He was 62 years old.
Dean was the beloved husband of the late Susan C. (Wunnenberg) Critchfield to whom he was married to for 34 years.
Born April 1, 1960, in Ligonier, he was the youngest son of the late Ford Thomas Critchfield, Sr. and Nancy Foy Critchfield of Rector, Pennsylvania.
After graduation with the Ligonier Valley Class of 1978, Dean proudly served for the United States Navy as a boilerman aboard the U.S.S William V. Pratt. Completing a four-year term, he was honorably discharged in 1982.
He was dedicated to his profession and continued his career with Merck Pharmaceutical Company until his retirement.
Dean had a true love for nature and traveling. He was a talented craftsman in many areas that included painting, woodworking, welding, and gardening. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time camping and boating with family and friends. He always had a twinkle in his eye and could make anyone laugh with his lighthearted humor.
He was preceded in death by his sister, LeAnn Grimm, brother-in law, David Grimm and brother, Ford Thomas Critchfield, Jr.
Dean is survived by his sister, Jennifer Anderson (Jim) and brother Larry Critchfield (Wendy), all of Ligonier.
He is additionally survived by his in-laws, Charles and Veronica Wunnenberg, sister-in-law Ann Wood (Michael) of Warrington, brother-in law Charles D. Wunnenberg (Jennifer) of Perkasie, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
Dean’s services and interment will be held privately in his hometown.
