Daniel "Larry" Laurence Rubini

Daniel Laurence “Larry” Rubini, 77, formerly of Newtown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2023. He was the beloved husband to Joan Hartmann Rubini for 53 years.

Born June 20, 1946 in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of the late Daniel James Rubini and Marguerite F. Rubini-Rink.

Larry graduated in 1968 from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Corps of Cadets, earning his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. While earning a Juris Doctor degree from Temple University Law School, he earned his armor specialty under the leadership of Brigadier General George S. Patton IV. Larry practiced law in Richboro for 22 years and then served as a U.S. administrative law judge for 24 years while pursuing a full career as an Army Reserve Officer. He earned subsequent military specialties as Judge Advocate General, serving in numerous brigade staff judge advocate roles, and as a Civil Affairs officer, deploying to war zones and conflict areas, and supporting the U.S. response to international crises.

Some of Judge Rubini’s notable deployments include Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991/92 as advisor to the Kuwait Ministry of Justice; Haiti in 1994 as Ministry of Justice Advisor and on later Haiti missions as the Ministry of Justice Team Chief from 1995 to 1997; and Central America in 1999 as Chief of Civil Affairs in support of U.S. Southern Command’s response to the humanitarian crisis following Hurricane Mitch. Although Larry retired from the Army Reserve as a Colonel in March, 2000, he stepped forward to serve his country after September 11, 2001. He returned to active duty and served during Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Justice in Iraq, as well as to the Coalition Provisional Authority administrator, Ambassador Paul L. Bremer. Larry retired again in 2004.

From 2012-2018, Larry received multiple appointments by the Chief of Army Reserve to serve as a United States Army Reserve ambassador for Pennsylvania. As a special government employee, a voluntary role with rank equivalence to a Major General, he established linkages between local commanders, Veteran Service Organizations, and local communities, ensuring the voice of the military family and servicemember is heard by local, state, and national policymakers. He chaired non-partisan veteran advisory committees to advise sitting members of congress and Northampton Township officials on veterans issues. He also served as a member of numerous boards and organizations engaged in veterans affairs, family support, and public awareness of military and veterans issues and military history, including Veteran of Foreign Wars; American Legion; Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; Association of the United States Army; Reserve Officers Association; Civil Affairs Association; Military Officers Association of America; Washington Crossing Foundation; Washington Crossing Re-enactors Society; Friends of Washington Crossing Park; Glover's Marbleheaders Regiment; Guardians for the Washington Crossing National Cemetery; Military Order of the Foreign Wars; and the Marine Corps League. He has published articles in military journals and spoke regularly to veterans organizations, service clubs, universities, businesses, and patriotic organizations.

Along with his wife Joan, Larry is survived by his two sons, DJ Rubini and his wife Lea; Jeffrey Rubini and his wife Juliet; grandchildren Gwen Rubini, Jane Rubini, and John Rubini; sisters Gail Sukernick and Lynn Rubini, as well as many extended family members.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay condolences on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 9:00am until his Memorial Service at 11:00am at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Rd.
