Condolences for John J. Filan

Vance NovackTuesday, April 19th

My deepest condolences to Dottie and John's entire family. As a young chemist joining what was then SK&F on Spring Garden Street, John was one of about a dozen people who mentored me through the early stages of my career. He was a truly fantastic scientist, always in a lab coat, and either standing in front of a chromatography instrument or reviewing a chromatogram in the lab with another scientist. I sorely missed him when he left GSK, and I lost track of the number of times I thought to myself "I wish John were here to help us solve this chemistry problem." I have so many fond memories of working with John over 30+ years with the company.

John, thank you for being such a great mentor, for showing me what it means to do good science, and for your friendship over so many years. May you rest in peace.

I loved working with John. He was such a team player. Always helpful and made huge contributions to SmithKline.
He will be sadly missed and he is in my thoughts. My deepest condolences to his family.
